Keep in mind that anti-depressants can have a broad reaching effect; many are approved for conditions other than depression.

I have combat related PTSD, chronic, sever with major depressive disorder, recurrent, sever without psychotic features. I was treated with 4 other SSRI drugs except Prozac. They all caused sever "Flu like symptoms". They disrupted my bodies thermal equilibrium. The first Paxil landed me in the hospital when my body temp was oscilating from below 93 F to above 104 F and back every 7 hours. The others I discontinued as soon as the symptoms started.
In 1994 I was started on serzone starting at 25 mg/d increasing to 600 mg/d. It worked. I could get effective sleep again. I have been on Serzone 600 mg/d for 10 years now :)
Last month Serzone was withdrawn from the market. I'm frantic now about what I'm going to do.

There are other antidepressant agents such as the tricyclics and MAO inhibitors. Your treating doctor has many options. There is no need to despair, and due to the dangers of Serzone, you may wish to think of yourself as fortunate that it was removed from the market.

I don't want to go back to: Waking up every 2 hours drenched in icy sweat and having to do a perimeter check before I can go back to sleep. The feeling that nothing is worth the effort including sex. The occasional flashbacks to Vietnam. The homicidal rage bubbling just beneath the surface and the extreme effort required to contain it. The inability to think straight. The attractiveness of "Going Postal."
