I am questioning the validitity of continuing looking for a licensed psychologist. I am not sure if I want to even pursue this. I suffer from depression, anxiety, adhd, and a host of other disorders. In the past, I have been in therapy, which did help me enormously. Now, I have my doubts. Has anyone had a bad experience in attempting to get mental health care? If so, can you please post about your experience. Right now I feel so alone. I am getting worse each and every day, and have been facing closed doors in my face most likely because I am transgendered (FTM). There really isn't too many licensed psychologists/psychiatrists who deal in the area of gender.

Thanks,
Sir Woodie

S.W., I'm sorry you feel discouraged right now. I hope that you will be able to find a therapist that is a really good "fit" for you. I think that's the word they use? Anyway, it sounds like you are really hurting inside, in your heart, and I think you deserve the best care that can be had.

I think therapists are still just people, even when they have degrees and even when they are acting in a professional capacity. Our society in general is not as accepting as it could be of transgendered people, or even just gay people, or for that matter, people of a different race, religion, or ethnic background. And therapists might hold some of those prejudices themselves, and we might be able to pick up on that, even if they try to conceal that and try very hard to remain neutral.

I guess if I had to think of an answer to that question, should you bother looking anymore...I would say, if you were your best friend instead of yourself, what would you advise your best friend to do?

Blessings & Hugs,
