Finding it difficult to talk to girls and make new friends

I will have to admit I have descent communication skills.
But I am very nervous to talk to girls and and make them as my friends.
I am 19, male. I feel these girls will reject me.
I have a inferior complex regarding my looks.. but sometimes I fell I look good.

Would have preferred to see a fitting answer to this question, though not the same problem, in my case I can sense others trying to make fun out of me for no apparent reason. Its not the case that I am abnormal in my personality but whenever I try to mix with people irrespective of their sexes this happens to me. As you can expect these have negative effects and I am suffering from distress. Is there anything I can do to improve my personality so that the practice of making fun of me stops completely.
