Going off Elavil and nightmares

Hello,

I have been taking Elavil, 50 mg daily, for 10 years because of chronic pain. The pain is gone and I am to start an antidepressor called Manerix, so I have to get off Elavil. I have been decreasing it slowly and yesterday was the first day without it. My problem is that I have numerous nightmares that prevent me from sleeping, whatever day or night, for 10 days. In addition to the problems caused by the lack of sleep, I am very perturbated by all these bad dreams that leave me breathless and sometimes make me sleepwalking. Does someone know how long all this will last?

What does your doctor say about the length of time for the rebound symptoms and why was not the new antidepressant started while the other was being tapered...finally, why was this particular new drug started and the Elavil discontinued. Elavil itself causes vivid dreaming. Sounds like you have some questions best answered by the individual managing your drugs.
